Venturing out
If the stars play out right for Sri Lankan beauty queen Jacqueline Fernandez, she will bag a Hollywood project in a shorter time than our other dabbling-in-Hollywood beauties — Aishwarya Rai and Bipasha Basu. Just four films old, Jacqueline has been approached for a British-Canadian project titled “Definition of Fear” which marks the directorial debut of producer James Simpson (known for films such as “The Merchant of Venice”, “Beowolf & Grendel” and “Head in the Clouds”). It is reportedly a horror film about four girls going out for the weekend to a remote snow-covered lake house and the unpleasant surprises that await them. Till that works out, Jacqueline has “Housefull 2” and “Raaz 3” to keep her busy.
Ruling Bollywood
This year will see much action for Rani Mukherjee. She has “Talaash” with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor and on a personal note might just make an official announcement about her impending marriage to Aditya Chopra. The other interesting bit is that Rani is paying attention to her career after neglecting it for a while. Impressed by Tigmanshu Dhulia's “Paan Singh Tomar”, the actor has now given her verbal consent to a period movie on the life of Begum Joanna Nobilis Sombre (popularly known as Begum Samru) who started off as a nautch girl in 18th Century India, eventually becoming the ruler of Sardhana, a principality near Meerut.
Give and take
Sonam Kapoor has missed out on two roles to South actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Mani Ratnam was keen on casting Sonam in his new Tamil film launching actor Karthik's son Gautham. But Sonam backed out reportedly worried about the signal that her consent to a South film would send in Bollywood. That's when Samantha stepped in. In another film, Gautham Menon's “Assi Nabbey Poore Sau”, too, Sonam was reportedly considered a strong contender till Gautham decided to cast his “Vinaaithandi Vaaruvaaya” find in it. Well, you win some, you lose some, Sonam!
