Sundarapandian

What it is about…

Company Productions’ Sundarapandian is produced by director Sasikumar and directed by one of his assistant directors, S. R. Prabhakaran. The audio was released by director Bala and received by Muthaiya and Socrates, two other ADs. The cast includes Sasikumar, Vijay Sethupathi, Appu Kutty, Inego, Suri, Lakshmi Menon, Thennavan, ‘Adukalam’ Narain and Sujatha. The others involved in the project are Prem Kumar (camera), N. R. Raghunanthan (music), and Dinesh (dance choreography) and Dilip Subbarayan (stunts). It is a love story set in a pastoral backdrop.

Music highlights

There are five songs in the album. ‘Kadhal Vandhu,’ sung by Haricharan and written by Na. Muthukumar, is interesting, and is repeated in the album. ‘Kondaadum Manasu,’ sung by Anand Aravindakshan and written by Mohanrajan, has a folksy flavour. ‘Rekkai Mulaiththen,’ penned by Karky, is beautifully rendered by music director G.V. Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal. ‘Nenjukkulle’ is a melodious song sung by Saindavi and written by Thamirai.

What they say…

Producer and hero Sasikumar:Sundarapandian is a love story with all the elements to come up trumps at the box office. You will get to see a different Sasikumar in it — not the usual angry young man I have portrayed so far. I am sure I’ll get new fan mails after the film’s release.

Director S. R. Prabhakaran: When I decided to direct a film, I started discussing scripts with producers. Learning about this, director Sasikumar asked me to come over for a story discussion session. When I finished narrating this story, he told me he would produce the film himself. I didn’t know how to thank him and I was delighted when he expressed his desire to play the lead in it. The film has come out well. Music director S. R. Raghunanthan: After doing more than a dozen jingles and working on more than seven short films, I got my first break in Thenmerkku Paruvakaatru followed it up with Krishnaveni Panjaalai . Now I am scoring the music for Neer Paravai. The story of Sundarapandian is set in a village I have composed the music accordingly. When I was through with RR, producer Sasikumar and director Prabhakaran listened to it and appreciated me — it was like a tonic.
