David Dhawan’s Main Tera Hero , which released last week, is the story of a young man who decides to move from his city to seek a fortune. In the course of his search – as it happens with many others — he falls in love with a beautiful girl. Unfortunately he is not the only one to desire her and his rival in is a gangster: the two men, in order to win her heart, engage in a duel often leading to spectacular and funny situations.
The comedy has all the elements of a typical masala movie: a young hero, beautiful women, romance, spectacular fights and funny moments. “You have a full plate of Indian emotions,” said Varun Dhawan, the main protagonist of the film, at a press conference in PVR Cinema in Saket. Varun plays the role of Seenu, a young man with typical aspirations. He discovers love, its joys and pains, and through it becomes a man and then a hero.
Many young actors are moving away from typical Bollywood movies in search of a more realistic cinema. However, when asked about his choice of doing masala comedies, Varun said that he would like to take Indian comedy to the levels of Govinda.
Since David, the director of the film, is Varun’s father, he was asked about his decision to act in the movie, and he said “It was not a commercial decision, but an emotional decision: my father is sixty plus and he is not getting any younger.” Hence, when the opportunity to work with his father came up, Varun decided to accept it since he wanted to work with a famous director.
The actor admitted that at times with his father wielding the megaphone it was a little embarrassing, for example during passionate scenes with the heroine, Ileana D`Cruz, who was also present at the press conference. Even though Ileana does not find her nature very similar to the character she has played, she said she had a lot of fun during the shooting, especially while dancing and singing.
