Spaceterior, aschool of interior design, in association with MOP Vaishnav College for Women, organised ‘Interio Photo Fest 2013’, a month-long event to introduce students in the city to the concept of interior design. ‘Namma Chennai Shopping Plazas’ was the theme of the contest held as part of the event. Participants from different colleges submitted pictures of interiors of various shopping plazas.
Spacterior associated itself with MOP Vaishnav College to execute a certification course in interior design and décor on the college campus. The 30-hour crash course covered a gamut of aspects relating to interior design, flooring, ceiling, lighting and furniture, besides re-use of material. At the end of the course, a one-day workshop was conducted to provide students hands-on experience for which three significant places in the college were chosen for a makeover. Fifty participants were divided into three teams each focussing on Interiorscaping, Graffiti and Wall Décor. For Interiorscaping, the theme was ‘Re-use of Material’. The students made an arrangement using car tyres, painting them in different colours. The Graffiti team painted a wall with colours to drive home the message of women’s empowerment. The Wall Decor team decorated the VIP lounge.
The winners were announced at the grand finale organised at Spaceterior. The chief guest was architect AKV Sridhar, managing director, Shankar Associates. The first prize of the Photo Fest, an android tablet, went to Sudharma Vaithuyabathan, and the runners-up were Sandhya and Chandralekha. Shanmugapriya and Uma Mageshwari were given special prizes.
