Composer Simon of Ainthu Ainthu Ainthu fame has tuned a rap number in Lingala, a language spoken in the Congo region, for his upcoming Tamil film Ainthaam Thalaimurai Sitha Vaithiya Sigamani . For this particular song, he has roped in Yabama JO, a rapper from Congo, and Gaana Bala.
“I knew him (Yabama JO) through a common friend and felt that it would be interesting to hear his voice in a Tamil album,” says Simon, “So, we brought him down and explained the song. Singers from that region croon from their heart – they do not follow a said musical structure. I had to elaborately explain how the song would shape up before we actually went for the recording.”
Getting the rapper and Gaana Bala together for a recording session was a memorable experience, he says. “We wanted to see how their voices would fuse and it’s come out really well. We have even shot a music video with the two of them jamming on the song.”
Yabama JO, he says, was fascinated by Indian sounds and music. “He was constantly asking us about the music scene here. We even made him sing a line in Tamil!”
Ainthaam Thalaimurai Sitha Vaithiya Sigamani , which stars Bharath and Nandita in lead roles, has been directed by LG Ravichandar. Simon has also made music composer Vijay Antony sing a number for the film.
