Her last release in tinseltown, Inimey Ippadithaan with Santhanam, just celebrated 50 days and Akhila Kishore can’t stop smiling. The actress, who made a name with her debut Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam (KTVI) , is just back from a six-month stint in the U.S., where she took up a course in photography.
“I’ve always wanted to travel abroad to study after my engineering, but never got around to doing it. I had finished work on Inimey Ippadithaan and war film Moondram Ulaga Por and had signed on for a project of Samuthirakani sir that was to start later in the year. So, I decided this was the time to take a break,” says Akhila.
In the U.S., she kept focussing only on honing her craft. Of course, she got to travel extensively. “I took up a course that was flexible. I could do it in modules. So, I can keep going back when I get time,” she says.
Akhila says that the only thing she looks for in roles is variety. “ Inimey …, for instance, was a total departure from KTVI .” She hopes to continue doing that; in Moondram Ulaga Por , which deals with a fictional war, the actress from Bangalore plays a soldier’s wife. Akhila is waiting to begin work on Samuthirakani’s film. “I’m working on losing some weight for the film,” she says. That must come easy for Akhila, who runs regularly. “But, my regimen took a beating in the U.S. When my parents received me at the airport, they were so surprised to see a fuller me,” she laughs. But, her weight-loss goal is back on track now. “And, unintentionally aiding it was a trip to a chaat stall,” she smiles.
