When the world is whizzing past, you just want to take a step back, rethink and rewind. Bring on the ‘me' time with Latitude 17 Cafe. Managed by The Park, the Latitude chain of cafe's has a unique nomenclature – suffixed by the latitude the city falls in, hence Latitude 17.
The impeccable interiors and ambience will help you cozy up to a warm soup, we'll recommend a carrot lemon and coriander soup – mild in flavour it will appetise your way into the main course, for the non-vegetarian's there is the classic chicken soup. The soups fit well with the palate, neither too thick and neither too thin, the liquid acquires a palatable viscosity.
Graduate into the salads and you have your Caesar salad, indulge in parmesan cheese and crunchy lettuce, pick from a walnut pasta salad or the red lentil salad with yoghurt dressing. Choose to go lebanese with a mezze: an assortment of small portions of middle eastern and mediterranean food.
With an impressive antipasti range that includes calamari, parmesan crusted basa and Indonesian chicken satay, let your gastronomic senses take priority. The cafe does good with their pasta, specialising in Italian cuisine apart from a small selection of other continental cuisine. Push the weighing scale aside and indulge in a one-on-one with their range of pasta.
Apart from their make-your-own-pasta, get on with a cheesy coating on your pasta with their Alfredo, Putaneasca – a salty, spicy and fragrant concoction, Carbonara and their alio olio range – lighter pasta that is tossed around with bare-minimum spices, perfect for supper.
If you're not comfortable with the pasta, a classic arabiatta and neopolitan is always an option. That's not all, a chicken steak will be a good idea for that office lunch, or you can munch on the salt grilled bay prawns. A perfect end to a lazy Sunday would be treating yourself to a Herb Grilled fish with burnt garlic mash or engulf yourself in the sweet and tangy flavour of the sun-dried tomatoes as it proves to be a perfect embellishment for the zucchini spaghetti.
Now sit back, relax and enjoy the music and make room for the sinful dessert spread, this could perhaps be the most confusing and disconcerting job – to let go of the cheesecake or the tart, oh wait, what about the chocolate truffle? A sure winner would be the passion fruit cheesecake served along with blueberry coulee. While the base is rich and buttery, the creamy texture of the cake is rich and passion fruit glaze along with a dip of the coulee will be a taste hard to forget. Not a cheesecake person? There's always room for more dessert, pick from the chocolate truffle and get lost in the swirls of vanilla ice-cream and a rich chocolate sauce or stay safe with an apple tart or a wild berry crumble.
Warm up to the cozy interiors on a first date and sip on their assortments in both tea and coffee, fancy an earl grey or a green moroccon mint tea? or charge yourself up with a good mock-tail like a cranberry smash or an apple bomb.
