What's to love?

Bang in the middle of the hustle-bustle of Dilshad Garden, University College of Medical Sciences has an exceptionally huge campus. The lanky pathway, natural and amiable ambience leading to the magnificent college building is surely typical of most medical colleges in the Capital. Sprawling across an area of more than 85 acres, the campus has ample options for students to discover new hangouts.

“The canteen is our favourite hangout zone as it is spacious and has a wide variety of food to offer. Here, we get scrumptious and quick food at the lowest rate. Just check out the paneer dosa and gulab jamun,” says a smiling Rohit, a first-year student of Medical Sciences.

Adds Bhawani, another first-year student, “Being medical students we don't get much time for recreation but gossiping and spending time here with friends is an easy getaway for us from boring lectures.”

Apart from this, the college's annual fests ‘Avalanche' and ‘Ripple' are times when students take a break from their tightly packed schedules, interact and enjoy themselves at full pace.

“The four days of fests in the college are always a great time for us and we go crazy if any celebrity turns up, like the recent visit of the band Jal at Ripple,” chuckles Rahul, a second-year student of Medical Sciences.

What's not to be?

“The campus, though spread over a large area, doesn't have an auditorium and it becomes quite difficult for us to manage fests and cultural events without it,” quips Rohit.

Alternatives

The large campus offers many tempting hangouts to students. The central stage in front of the college building and the rostrums of trees are mostly occupied by small flocks of students often seen sitting, lying, chatting, singing and, sometimes, even studying. These apart, there are other locations such as portions of the basketball court and the cricket ground. The canteen, being the hub of all activities, is mostly packed. Those who don't find any space in the canteen mostly turn up at the vendors near the college streets and the Chinese dhaba near the Metro station, another popular destination.
