On the penultimate day of filing nominations, eight persons filed their nominations to contest in the Pollachi Parliamentary constituency.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam nominee N. Palanisamy was one among the eight.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s C.P. Radhakrishnan and DMK nominee K. Ganesh Kumar were among those who filed nominations for the Coimbatore Parliamentary seat.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Palanisamy said that if elected he would work towards setting up an IT park in Pollachi, initiate efforts to revive the Amaravathi sugar mill and implement the Nallaru scheme and provide a by-pass road linking Pollachi with Udumalpet.
His Coimbatore counterpart Mr. Kumar said that he would work towards expanding the Coimbatore Airport and improving the city’s infrastructure.
BJP’s Mr. Radhakrishnan said that he relied on the formidable alliance the BJP had stitched to form the National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu.
AffidavitIn his affidavit, Mr. Palanisamy had said that while he had not been convicted in any case, he had three cases pending against him – the first with the Department of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Coimbatore, the second with the Singanallur Police Station and the third with the Anti Land Grabbing Cell, Tirupur.
In the DVAC case, he had been charged under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act; in the case registered by the Singanallur Police he had been booked for allegedly preventing government servants from discharging their duties, unlawful assembly; and, in the Anti Land Grab Cell case he had been accused of grabbing land.
Three courts had also framed charges against him, Mr. Palanisamy had said.
AssetsAs for his assets, the DMK candidate had declared that he had Rs. 20.47 crore in moveable assets and Rs. 16.89 crore in immoveable assets in his name and Rs. 3.32 crore in immoveable assets in his deceased wife P. Vijayalakshmi’s name.
Mr. Radhakrishnan had declared his and family’s moveable assets at Rs. 3,89,05,127 and immoveable assets at Rs. 62,42,93,730.
The DMK’s Mr. Kumar had declared his moveable assets at Rs. 17.11 lakh and immoveable assets at Rs. 28 lakh.
TirupurAs many as 14 candidates filed nomination papers to contest in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on Friday. Of them, M. Senthilnathan had filed in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ticket and Dinesh Kumar representing DMDK. Mr. Senthilnathan’s and Mr. Dinesh’s spouses, Susheela and Rekha, respectively, filed the nominations as substitute candidates. N. Sivakumar (34) filed the nomination for Uzhaipali Makkal Katchi for the second consecutive time.
The remaining nominations were filed by Independent candidates.
