: Congress leader and former Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday blamed the Narendra Modi Government for slashing social sector spending by a whopping Rs. 1,75,122 crore in one year alone.
While Rs. 66,222 crore was cut in grants on social sector schemes; Rs. 5,900 crore was cut by scrapping the Backward Region Grant Fund; and Rs. 1,03,000 crore by not implementing the food security programme, Mr. Singh added.
At a press conference at the Congress Bhavan here, Mr. Singh alleged that “Mr. Modi’s ‘Suit Boot Ki Sarkar’ is mercilessly demolishing the edifice of India’s fundamental values of inclusive development in its insatiable quest to appease a few crony capitalists and trading partners”.
“Shockingly, these cuts have been unabatedly applied to areas/sectors which are integral to India’s women and child development, agriculture, irrigation, Panchayati Raj, Education, Health, Housing, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, welfare of scheduled castes and tribals and back region fund, Mr. Singh said.
The Congress leader called upon the people to unite and stand in steadfast opposition to a “regressive, retrograde and anti-poor Modi Government that only believes in ‘Baton Ka Vyapar Aur Jhoot Ka Prachar’ (Business of words and publicity of lies).
Odisha Pradesh Congress president Prasad Harichandan, who was present at the press conference, highlighted the failures of the Naveen Patnaik Government which also completes one year of its fourth term in power in Odisha.
