The results of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations were declared at 11.30 a.m. on Monday in which 98.49 per cent of the 1,58,833 taking the ICSE passed and 96.28 per cent of the 71,141 of the students taking the ISC passed. Continuing with a trend that that has now become a cliché headline, girls performed better than boys in both the class XII as well as the class X examination.
Three students, Tezan Tapan Sahu, Ananya Harshad Patwardhan and Sougata Chowdhury, topped the ICSE examination by scoring 99.20 per cent while Arkya Chatterjee from Kolkata topped the ISC with 99.75 per cent.
“The toppers in both class X and class XII have broken the record of the last five years with the percentage secured this year,” said chief executive officer of CISCE Gerry Arathoon. In terms of region wise performance, Southern region recorded the highest pass percentage in both the classes. The pass percentage in class X stood at 99.66 per cent and in class XII it was 99.08 per cent.
In the NCR region, there are 41 schools that subscribe to the ICSE board and 26 schools that presented candidates for the ISC. The pass percentage for the ICSE was 98.5 per cent with 99.14 per cent girls clearing the examination. In the ISC it was 97.27 per cent with 96.65 per cent girls clearing the examination.
Rupal Goel from Holy Child School, Ghaziabad scored 99 per cent in her ISC topping the NCR region and Yashvarshan Tomar from St. Mary’s Academy Meerut Cantt. topped the NCR region with 99 per cent in the ICSE.
The maximum number of students taking the ICSE examination was from the northern region while the Southern region has the best pass percentage of 99.66 percent with the Western region coming in a close second with 99.55 per cent. The trend was the same for the ISC examination as well.
The ICSE examination was conducted in 61 written subjects of which 22 are India languages, 15 foreign and one classical language. The ISC was conducted in 52 written subjects with 15 being Indian languages, eight foreign languages and two classical languages.
The ICSE boards began on February 27 and ended on March 30, while the ISC exams began on February 9 and ended on April 1.
