KCR wants MMTS Phase II expedited

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday wanted South Central Railway to speed up works on the MMTS (Multi-Modal Transit System) Phase II, to serve peripheral areas including the international airport at Shamshabad, and also increase services.

He underscored the need to upgrade railway infrastructure in and around the twin cities in tune with the developmental requirements and wanted new passenger terminals to be created at convenient locations to reduce congestion at Hyderabad, Kacheguda and Secunderabad. SCR General Manager P.K. Srivastava called on the Chief Minister at the Secretariat to brief him on ongoing projects in Telangana and expansion plans in the State.

Promises support

When he sought Government assistance, Mr. Rao assured him of support from Government of Telangana on land allocation and other clearances and advised the SCR to expedite works on road over-bridges and road under-bridges in the twin cities to ease road traffic congestion.

Reviews projects

Reviewing status of projects like the wagon manufacturing factory in Kazipet and new lines including Peddapalli-Nizamabad and Manoharabad-Kothapalli among others, Mr. Rao wanted that work on sanctioned railway projects in Telangana be speeded up. Those present at the meeting included Excise Minister T. Padma Rao and Principal Secretary to CM S. Narsing Rao.

Lot of potential

Mr. Srivastava explained the salient feature of the zone’s performance on the freight and passenger traffic front and said there is a lot of potential in the Telangana portion of SCR.

He assured the Chief Minister that SCR’s momentum would continue to be aimed at meeting rail transportation needs in the new State.
