People’s representatives in a piquant situation in Bhadrachalam Agency area

Security advisory to leaders perceiving threat from Maoists

The shadow of Maoist violence looms large over the border areas of Bhadrachalam Agency in the wake of the banned outfit’s ongoing foundation day celebration.

Many local body elected representatives of interior villages are facing a piquant situation over their participation in the TRS government’s 30-day action plan for village development, which is halfway through.

As a precautionary measure, the Bhadrachalam sub-division police have issued security advisory to politicians, especially those facing threat perception from the rebels not to enter the interior areas without informing the local police in the next few weeks.

Several functionaries of the political parties, mainly belonging to the ruling TRS, reportedly moved from their tribal habitations to plains areas following the tactical move of the Maoist rebels to celebrate the 15th foundation day of their outfit for more than one and a half months this time, sources said.

Instances of violence

There have been several instances of violence by the Maoist rebels targeting “police informers” and road infrastructure in Bhadrachalam Agency in recent months.

In July this year, the ultras gunned down a former MPTC member of Charla mandal owing allegiance to the TRS by accusing him of acting as a “police informer” in the forest area along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border.

Recruitment of cadre

Police suspect that the rebels are planning to hold meetings in forest fringe areas along the inter-State border with a focus on recruitment of cadre and to carry out attacks targeting security forces, politicians and vital installations during the coming few weeks.

Adequate security arrangements are in place to foil any attempt by the Maoists to create trouble, said Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt.

Area domination and vehicle checking operations were under way in far-flung areas of Bhadrachalam Agency to prevent untoward incidents, he said.

“We have urged the politicians and officials to inform the local police in advance if they want to visit interior villages along the border. Protection will be given to those who intend to visit the remote villages for development works as part of the 30-day action plan for village development,” he said.
