Farmer felicitated for saving lives of passengers

Mangaluru North MLA B.A. Moiddin Bava on Monday felicitated Frank Fernandes, a farmer in Pachchanadi, for saving hundreds of train passengers.

Mr. Bava handed over a cheque for Rs. 5,000 to Mr. Fernandes and promised to recommend his name for the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award.

Mr. Fernandes on Saturday morning noticed a weld failure on a railway track near his residence and alerted the Mangalru-Madgaon Intercity Express loco pilot with a ‘Ratha Pushpa’ about the impending danger.

Reduced speed

The Railway authorities thereafter operated trains at a reduced speed on the stretch before repairing it by Saturday evening.
