The second edition of Bahrain Kannadadotsava was held in a grand scale at Town Hall here on Sunday.

The event was delayed by an hour as the organisers waited for the arrival of the guests. The evening programme began with a dance performance by Astika Sunil Shetty and her group comprising of Chitra Ramesh, Yagna Rai, Advika Shetty and Shiksha Shetty.

It was followed by a Yakshagana performance on the popular story Bhargava Vijaya that had artistes and singers from Badagatittu and Tenku Thtittu. Though Yakshagana enthusiasts found flaws in expressions of some of the artistes’, the audience largely appreciated the performance that went nearly for an hour. Janapada Jatre , fashion show, and a dance show too were performed.

Earlier, theatre artiste Yashwant Sirdeshpande, one of the organisers of the programme, said it was the dream of Kannadigas in Bahrain to perform in Karnataka and more so before the home crowd in Mangalore. Last year, the programme was organised in Bangalore. “Now these artists have come to perform before their near and dear,” he said.

Minister of State for Youth Services and Fisheries K. Abhayachandra Jain attended the programme midway. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, and and journalist Vishwehwar Bhat were present.
