The State government is laying its developmental thrust on knowledge-based industries, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said. He was speaking after launching the Taurus Downtown Trivandrum project here on Friday.

“Technopark is the first IT park in India. Ever since this government came to office, we have been making every effort to ensure that it becomes a world-class facility by upgrading its capacities, setting up global industries and attracting fresh talent. We aim at increasing software export and at preparing the basic physical infrastructure for attracting investors. The arrival of tech giants such as Nissan and Fujitsu are positives. The launching of Downtown project fits neatly into these larger scheme of things,” he said.

On 20 acres

Downtown Trivandrum, being developed by Taurus Investment Holdings along with its partners Embassy Group and Asset Homes, is a mixed-use project with 55 lakh square feet of built-up space in 20 acres of land located within Phase 3 of Technopark.

The project will consist of Embassy Taurus TechZone, an office complex having 33 lakh square feet of collaborative workspace; Taurus Zentrum, a 12-lakh square feet retail and entertainment centre; Asset Taurus Identity, 315 units of serviced residences; and a 200-key Business Hotel.

Shashi Tharoor, MP, said that political parties had been able to come together despite their differences for the common goal of the city’s development.

Matter of satisfaction

“It really is a matter of great satisfaction for me to see what has so long existed on paper becomes a reality today. The future of the State’s development lies in the IT field, in the knowledge industry, and in the kind of environmental-friendly things we are well known for, particularly tourism and wellness, which are both subsets of the hospitality industry. All of these things fit together extremely well. It seems to be a very useful project which can attract more companies. When these big companies come, they’ll need more office spaces which indeed this project hopes to provide,” said Mr. Tharoor.

Lorenz Reibling, Chairman of Taurus, said that the company hoped to contribute to the rising star among Asian nations.

“Taurus’ DNA is international and primarily based on accumulation of IQ, not only of assets. There are of course intelligent people in all countries and continents, but few show such promising signs of dominating the future marketplace of IQ, and indirectly of AI, as India,” said Mr. Reibling.
