A signature campaign was initiated in Tiruchi on Saturday to impress upon the Central Government the need to sustain funding for centres of women’s studies throughout the country.
Signatures of over 100 participants at the seminar, organised by Menstrual Hygeine Management Consortium, were obtained and the momentum will be sustained, N. Manimekalai, Director and Head, Centre for Women's Studies, Bharathidasan University, said.
Similar initiatives have been undertaken by women's studies centres in Kerala, Andhra, Telengana, Karnataka and Puducherry. Representatives of the centres will converge at Chennai on August 4 for the convention of Regional Association for Women's Studies (RAWS).
Discussions will take place on possible action strategies for continuance of women's studies centres at the RAWS meeting, Prof. Manimekalai said.
