Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian held discussions with representatives of Guizhou Maritime Silk Road International Investment Corporation (GIIC) on beautification of canals in the city, on Thursday.
On the occasion, Mr. Veerapandian said the canals are to be beautified for Krishna Pushkaram and also keeping the importance of Vijayawada as the functional capital in view. He requested the GIIC to come up with the best designs for improving the landscape as a huge number of people would be visiting the city for the Pushkaram.
Pilot project
Priority should be attached to developing the 2.1 km-long river bank from Prakasam barrage to Bhavani Ghat as a pilot project. The Eluru, Ryves, Bandar and Budameru canal banks are to be transformed into places with blue and green ambience (spanning nearly 50 km).
He said that the GIIC team should pay due attention to beautifying vacant lands, roads, road dividers and margins and traffic islands in tune with the State government’s endeavour to develop Vijayawada as a ‘blue and green’ city of global standards.
AP Urban Greening and Beatification Corporation Limited Managing Director N. Chandramohan Reddy, VMC chief engineer (in-charge) M.A. Shukoor and executive engineer Ch. Dhanunjaya were among those present.
