The festive fervour of Sankranti, the festival of harvest, has spread across the nook and cranny of the city. Shopping malls and market places in the city were abuzz with activity ahead of the festival on Wednesday as people came out in large number to make last minute festive purchases.
The exuberance of the festive season can be seen in the glittering offers in the market. The busy Jagadamba Junction virtually resembled a sea of humanity with shoppers making a beeline at several stores offering festive discounts.
Traffic snarls
Traffic snarls were witnessed at other major places like Jagadamba Junction, Poorna Market, Daba Gardens, RTC Complex, VIP Road and Sampath Vinayak Temple Road.
The festive season has brought in some cheer for all major shopping malls and branded stores of apparels, which witnessed a drop in sales in the past two months following the demonetisation. Malls like Shoppers Stop, Pantaloons, CMR Central and Vizag Central, including from several standalone branded stores, saw an increase in footfalls. According to an owner of a major apparel store at Siripuram, the footfalls have picked up in the past three days and business has soared by 25 per cent. Several furniture and furnishing stores are offering a slew of discounts to lure the festive shoppers.
