A door-to-door surveillance will be undertaken by around 5,000 personnel covering 5.8 lakh households in the limits of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) to combat the mosquito menace, destroying larvae and create awareness among people, GVMC Special Officer and Collector Pravin Kumar has said.
The staff would visit the houses to check for breeding of mosquitoes.
“Letters authorising the inspection have been issued by the Municipal Commissioner to the staff,” Mr. Pravin said.
Dengue cases
Mr. Pravin Kumar said owing to the steps undertaken in the last few days and with Health and Sanitation staff covering 12 lakh houses in the district, the incidence of fevers was on the decline.
“The incidence of malaria has been down by 55%. Dengue cases were reported more owing to seasonal factors in July and August this year. Around 2,000 cases have been diagnosed so far,” the Collector said.
Earlier, the Collector and Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan enquired form the parents of a boy suffering from dengue at Pilakavanipalem how he was recovering. They later visited the GVMC health centre at Sriharipuram.
DM&HO Tirupati Rao, Chief Medical Officer (Health) A. Hemantha nd District Malaria Officer Mani accompanied them.
Appeal to RWAs
In the morning, Mr. Hari Narayanan appealed to resident welfare associations and its members to participate in the special sanitisation drive being undertaken by the GVMC on Saturday and Sunday.
At a meeting with the representatives of RWAs, seasonal diseases and Swachh Survekshan-2019, Mr. Hari Narayanan asked the RWAs to register on the GVMC website so as to represent any problems to the corporation. A.P. Federation of RWAs president Uday Shirname was present.
