No timeframe for rail zone, says Sinha

Updated - March 17, 2016 06:03 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha has said that the Ministry of Railways has asked the committee, which submitted its report on the feasibility of creation of a new railway zone in Andhra Pradesh, to consult various stakeholders also, including Members of Parliament and State Government, before taking a final decision.

Responding to queries raised by Anakapalle MP Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, Mr. Sinha said that “no timeframe can be set by which the committee would take a final decision on the zone.”

When contacted over phone, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had already announced the decision of the State Government to locate the headquarters of the new railway zone in Visakhapatnam. He said that there could be no deviation from it.

To another question posed by Mr. Srinivasa Rao, along with Boora Narasaiah Goud, on the status of other railway projects, Mr. Sinha said that the Wagon Manufacturing facility at Kazipet in Telangana was sanctioned in the 2011-12 Budget.

The Railways had not commenced work on it as the existing wagon manufacturing capacity was adequate to meet the current demand for new wagons based on traffic projections.
