A tsunami mock drill was conducted at Peda Jalaripeta in the city and at Chukkavanipalem in Bhimunipatnam on Friday from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.
The drill saw a series of relief measures being extended to victims in the scenario of earthquake in the Nicobar Islands triggering tsunami.
The mock drill was conducted as a part of an exercise on the East Coast by the National Disaster Management Authority and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The drill saw people being alerted, evacuated to cyclone shelters, those drowning in the sea being rescued, extended first-aid and rushed to hospital and air-dropping of food.
Personnel of NDRF, CRPF, the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Air Force, CRPF, Fire and staff of GVMC, medical, transport, irrigation and fisheries departments, volunteers of the Red Cross and Civil Defence stationed at A U Engineering College Grounds responding to tsunami bulletins and rushing to Peda Jalaripet.
Representatives from Pacific islands of Marshall Islands, Fiji Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Vanvatu, Samoa and Solomon Islands were among those who saw the arrangements for the drill.
NDMA Joint Advisor Dhirendra Singh Siddhu gave a detailed account of the manner in which the drill was carried out.
