Jagadish Kumar, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Hebbal constituency in the city, died of heart attack in Bengaluru on Monday. He was 57. He is survived by wife and two daughters.
Mr. Kumar, a first-time MLA, felt uneasy while participating in the legislature session. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital.
Vikram Hospital sources said Mr. Kumar developed severe chest pain when he was waiting for the doctor. “He breathed his last even before he could be shifted to the casualty. It all happened in a span of seven minutes,” sources said.
The MLA, who had been complaining of discomfort in the chest for some time, was supposed to be admitted to the hospital on Tuesday for a thorough evaluation, the sources said.
The MLA had earlier attended the BJP’s protest rally, besides actively taking part in the legislature session.
Mr. Kumar, who holds a B.E. degree in electronics, was an expert in land-related issues, especially the affairs of Bengaluru Development Authority and Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board.
Mr. Kumar, a trusted lieutenant of former Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, had been given ticket by the BJP to contest the 2013 Assembly elections, after Mr. Naidu was not considered following cases of irregularities related to the KIADB.
