BJP sweeps local bodies in Bengaluru Urban district

Updated - April 28, 2016 05:33 am IST - BENGALURU:

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept all five urban local bodies (ULBs) in Bengaluru Urban district which went to the polls on Sunday. The JD (S) did not even open its account in Hebbagodi and Chandapura ULBs.

This is certain to spoil the 3rd anniversary of the Congress rule in the State. Overall, the BJP has 415 seats to 353 of the Congress.

This is another setback to the Congress, which won only one seat in by-elections to three Assembly seats held earlier this year.

Coming back to Bengaluru Urban district, the BJP secured 17 out of the 31 seats in Hebbagodi City Municipal Council.

The Congress managed 13 and one went to an independent.

In Attibele Town Municipal Council, the BJP bagged 14 out of the 23 seats. The Congress secured 8 and JD (S) one. In Jigani TMC, the BJP won 15 out of 23 seats. The Congress won five, JD (S) two and one went to an independent.

In Bommasandra TMC, BJP secured 14, Congress 6, JD (S) 1, CMP 1 and Independent 1.

In Chandapura TMC, BJP secured 16 and Congress 7.

Except Hebbagodi, the percentage of voting in the other ULBs was more than 60 per cent.

JD (S) wins in Bidadi

The JD (S) secured a majority in Bidadi TMC winning 12 out of 23 seats. The Congress bagged the remaining seats. Overall, elections were held to 985 seas in 15 ULBs. The BJP secured 415 seats, Congress 353, JD (S) 57, Independents 156 and other parties won 4 seats.

All independents

Interestingly, in Mallapura PG Town Panchayat in Belagavi district, independents won all the 17 seats.
