For nearly two months now, Girinagar councillor H.S. Lalitha, who has been admitted in a private hospital, is undergoing treatment for low blood pressure.

On Tuesday, rumours were doing the rounds that the councillor was in a critical condition. However, sources in the BBMP rubbished it claimed that the councillor was undergoing treatment and not in any danger.

It is said Basavanagudi MLA Ravi Subramanya and city Mayor N. Shanthakumari visited the councillor at the private hospital to enquire about her health.

A senior councillor told The Hindu , on condition of anonymity, that Ms. Lalitha had low BP. “In fact, before the BBMP elections when the BJP was giving out B Forms, she had fainted due to low BP and had to be hospitalised.”

The councillor said that she used to ride a two-wheeler and had sustained a head injury after falling off the vehicle once. It was a few months after the accident, in April this year, that she was caught shoplifting clothes worth around Rs. 5,000 from an apparel shop in Gandhinagar.

“She was mentally unstable after the accident and became depressed after the shoplifting incident. Her family claimed she used to take sleeping pills,” the councillor said.
