Updated - March 29, 2016 03:36 pm IST - Bengaluru:

If you are riding or driving without rear view mirrors, you may end up paying fine. In a first of its kind special drive recently, Transport Department officials booked over 70 motorists and slapped fine on them for not having rear view mirrors. As per section 5 and 7 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act, all vehicles should have rear view mirrors.

“This is not only to ensure traffic discipline but also to reduce fatal accidents. A majority of riders are not aware that riding without mirrors is a violation of traffic rules,” said Narendra Holkar, Joint Commissioner (Transport).

“We had to tell motorists that riding without rear view mirrors, riding without horn, failing to give signal, playing music while riding and use of colour lights on the vehicle will attract penal action,” a senior police officer said.
