Another film is facing trouble in Kollywood. After Vijay’s Kaththi triggered strong protests by several parties last October, Lyca Productions is feeling the heat for the second time as cadres of Ilaya Thalaimurai Katchi defied police orders and protested against its new film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan , releasing on Wednesday.

The production house had obtained the distribution rights of the film from actor Dhanush, the film’s producer. The cadres protested in front of actor Rajinikanth’s house, who is his father-in-law, leading to the arrest of ten people.

In a statement addressed to Mr. Rajinikanth on Tuesday, the party strongly condemned Dhanush’s decision to sell the rights of the film to Lyca Productions.

“Subaskaran Allirajah is closely related to Mahinda Rajapakse, who has killed hundreds of thousands of Tamils in 2009. There were strong protests before the release of their first foray in Tamil with Kaththi . This resulted in the film releasing without the name of the production house. The Tamil Nadu Directors Association had assured the protesters that Lyca Productions will not be allowed to produce, distribute or involve itself in movie business in Tamil Nadu,” said Iniyan John of Ilaya Thalaimurai Katchi.

The statement further said that their intention is not to protest against a Tamil movie or the Tamil film industry. “However, the Tamil film industry must take care not to have business links with those who are against the interests of the Tamils. If Lyca Productions continues to conduct business, we will launch protests in tandem with other Tamil organisations,” he said.
