Three persons, including a cook and an advocate, were killed in different road accidents in Ambattur and adjoining areas in the last two days.
Sources with the Poonamallee traffic investigation police said a 23-year-old man was run over by an MTC bus (route number 24c: Vivekananda House to Avadi). The victim, Dinesh, who worked as a cook at an eatery in Mogappair and was a resident of Ramakrishna Avenue in Thirumullaivoyal, was headed to work on his motorcycle around 9 a.m. on Saturday. Dinesh was travelling on CTH Road a few metres away from his house when the MTC bus rammed his motorcycle. He lost control of the vehicle, fell on the road and came under the wheels of the bus. The driver of the bus, Bhoopalan (54) of Avadi, was arrested.
In another fatal accident that occurred on Saturday at noon, an elderly man who was crossing the road near the BSNL telephone exchange in Ambattur was knocked down by a heavy vehicle carrying a crane. The victim, Shanmugam (75), of Jaya Colony in Thirumullaivoyal, suffered head injuries and died on the spot. The driver Yuvaraj (26) of Tindivanam was arrested for reckless driving, traffic police sources said.
A lawyer was knocked down by a speeding lorry on the 200 feet road in Manjambakkam near Madhavaram on Friday night. The accident took place when the Valmoorthy (56), attached to the magistrate court in Pooneri, was trying to cross the road, Madhavaram traffic police said.
