‘TN data on RTE seats incorrect’

Updated - March 14, 2016 05:45 am IST - Chennai:

PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday alleged that the figures provided by the Tamil Nadu government on seats provided under the Right to Education Act were bogus and the ones filed by the RTE Resource Centre in Ahmedabad had exposed the State government.

Mr. Ramadoss said data from the Resource Centre showed that only 37.75 per cent of the seats were filled under the RTE Act in Tamil Nadu. “But the Tamil Nadu government claimed 94 per cent, 64 per cent, 47 per cent under various statistics filed by it. However, information received under the RTI Act showed that only 2,959 seats were filled,” he alleged. Mr. Ramadoss called for a white paper on the topic and said the scheme meant for poor children was being misused. He also demanded an apology from the government for providing misleading numbers.
