The heavy rain in the city on Tuesday resulted in the cancellation of suburban train services between Chennai Beach and Arakkonam and Tambaram.

The Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, tweeted that suburban services on the Chennai Beach – Tambaram line were affected due to the shifting of a girder on the bridge across Adyar river between Saidapet and Guindy railway stations.

“How it impacts suburban train operations in the coming days will be known following a detailed bridge inspection that would be undertaken after the water recedes,” the officer’s twitter handled informed.

Further, all train movement between Chennai Central and Arakkonam were suspended due to water overflowing near the bridge between Basin Bridge and Vyasarpadi railway stations.

As a result, suburban services to Arakkonam were operated from Chennai Beach station with a frequency of one train every 45 minutes or one hour.

As usual, the elevated Mass Rapid Transit System services came to the rescue of people travelling from the city to Mylapore, Tiruvanmiyur and Velachery.
