Navi Mumbai: Playing Dandiya turned nightmarish for an 11-year-old boy from Koparkhairane when he fell onto an one-foot snake on Sunday night. Atul Ranjit Singh, who was bitten on his right hand, was taken to Vashi municipal hospital, where the doctor advised to shift him to JJ Hospital. Atul is out of danger.

The boy’s mother, Krishnavati Rajnit Singh, who was in the kitchen at that time, said the incident happened at around 8.30 p.m. “Every Navratri, he plays Dandiya in the garden in front of our society, but this is the first time something like this happened.” The boy’s father, an autorickshaw driver, was not home at the time.

She said, “All I could think of was to stop the poison from spreading. I tore my sari and tied up his hand.”

Koparkhairane ward officer Ashok Madhvi said, “If the fire brigade was informed, a team could have reached the spot to catch the reptile. Now they will have to scan the area.”
