North Korea has arrested a US tourist, Pyongyang said on Friday without specifying his crime.
“American citizen Jeffrey Edward Fowle entered the DPRK as a tourist on April 29 and acted in violation of the DPRK law, contrary to the purpose of tourism during his stay,” KCNA said.
The man did not behave as a tourist should, the KCNA report said.
“A relevant organ of the DPRK detained him and is investigating him,” the report said.
Mr. Fowle’s arrest brings the number of US citizens held in North Korea to three.
The US State Department said it had heard of Mr. Fowle’s arrest, US media reports said, but could not give out further details on an individual case without permission.
