Mudra loan mela

Since February 2018, hundreds of women, who are members of various self-help groups, vendors and hawkers, thronged the Ramanathapuram Collectorate and the office of Magalir Thittam to present applications for ‘Mudra loans,’ the micro funding offered for self-employment without collateral security.
Collector S. Natarajan, who received the applications, said that a target had been fixed to provide loans to 14,000 beneficiaries by the end of this month. Credit facilities would be provided by the banks under the schemes of Shishu, Kishor and Tarun and those in the age group of 18 to 55 years were eligible to avail the loans.

Polling for the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly and 60-member Nagaland Assembly began at 7 a.m. on Tuesday amid tight security. In Meghalaya over 18 lakh voters eligible to exercise their franchise in more than 3,000 polling stations across the State to decide the fate of 361 candidates. In Nagaland a total of 11,76,432 voters, comprising of 5,97,281 male, 5,79,151 female and 5884 service voters, are eligible to exercise their franchise during the day to decide the fate of 195 candidates.

North Korean delegation returns home

North Korea’s delegation to the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics has left South Korea after a visit where the former general suspected of masterminding deadly 2010 military attacks on the South told Seoul officials the North is willing to talk with Washington. The delegation’s returning home on Tuesday completes the North Korea’s diplomatic outreach to the South during the Pyeongchang Olympics that was seen as an attempt to break out from the isolation and pressure North Korea faces over its nuclear programme.

Doan Thi Huong and Siti Aisyah of Indonesia have pleaded not guilty to killing Kim Jong-nam on Feb. 13, 2017 at a crowded Kuala Lumpur airport terminal. They are accused of wiping VX on Kim's face in an assassination widely thought to have been orchestrated by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
