Tense situation prevailed for some time when police and farmers were in a confrontation mood at Gudepuvalasa, the nucleus village for the international airport in Bhogapuram mandal on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, police took four farmers into custody for hindering land survey.
Despite stiff opposition from farmers over the past several weeks, the land survey in an extent of 5,311 acres has been going on with police escort.
According to Bhogapuram Tehsildar Lakshma Reddy, it all began at 12 noon when farmers confronted the eight-member RITES team and obstructed the land survey.
They argued with the team members police personnel that they would not allow the survey of their lands until the court disposed of their writ plea.
When they did not relent, police took four farmers - Matta Narasinga Rao (a retired Army man), Kollu Ramana Murty (an advocate), K. Lakshma Reddy, and Darapu Asirappa Reddy - into custody.
Following their arrest, a large number of women from the village staged protests for over an hour.
More number of forces, including woman constables, led by Vizianagaram DSP Ratnam, reached the spot to restore normalcy.
