The Agumbe Ghat Road that connects Malnad and coastal Karnataka regions will remain closed for three months from December 20 for the work of concretisation, Superintendent Engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) B.S. Balakrishna has said.
He told press persons here on Wednesday that, an amount of Rs 10 crore has been released to concretise Agumbe Ghat Road, part of State Highway 1.
The Government has announced to upgrade Agumbe Ghat Road into the standards of National Highway. The concretisation work will be completed in three months, he said.
The Mangalore-Shivamogga stretch of National Highway-13 that passes through Moodbidri, Karkala, Sringeri, Koppa, Tirthahalli; Mangalore-Moodbidri-Karkala-Sringeri-Shivamogga Road via Koppa and N.R. Pura; Kundapura-Mastikatte-Shivamogga road via Siddapura, Yadur and Tirthahalli; Kundapura-Siddapura-Shivamogga road via Mastikatte, Rave Cross, Kondlur and Tirthahalli have been identified as alternative routes for vehicular movement during these three months, he said.
The Agumbe Ghat Road consists of 14 hairpin curves. It maybe mentioned here that, parapet wall near six curves have become dilapidated. Mr. Balakrishna said that, the work of repairing the parapet walls would also be undertaken during concretisation work.
