R. Vishal, Deputy Commissioner, said on Monday that all bank accounts in the district should be linked to Aadhaar cards. He was speaking at a meeting of the representatives of all banks at the District Offices Complex here.
He also reviewed the progress of the banks in enrolling people under the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojana and other schemes one the occasion.
Dr. Vishal directed the representatives of all banks to prepare an action plan and set themselves targets on linking bank accounts to Aadhaar cards by the end of August. The action plans should be submitted to the district administration, he said. He demanded to know the reason for banks with high number of branches in the district not linking their accounts with the Aadhaar cards.
“It is essential that an action plan is formulated from the grassroots level and implemented. The administration is ready to provide all help to the banks,” he said.
He said that banks should have direct communication with their account holders and convince them on the issue of linking the accounts with the Aadhaar cards. “This would help not only the beneficiaries of the government schemes but also others,” he said.
On the issue of housing loans, he said that it was necessary that banking facilities reached all the people. It was essential that services, such as government aid, subsidy and low-interest rate loans, were made available to the poor people.
He directed the Lead District Chief Manager Subba Rao to take special interest in the implementation of schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Jeevanjyoti Bima Yojana.
He directed him to carry out an intensive campaign on both these schemes.
