Man sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, murder

Principal District and Session Judge Koppal, Basavaraj Sappannavar convicted Balaji Karbari of Kenchanadoni to life imprisonment on Monday for rape and murder of a minor girl.

Balaji (20) along with two others, Suresh Karbari (17) and Ningappa Karbari (17), had raped the 12-year-old girl in a field. When the victim threatened to inform her parents, the three strangled her using a binding wire.

The victim’s mother filed a case with Koppal (Rural) police on May 6, 2014 which was registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. After investigation a charge sheet was filed.

Being juveniles, Suresh and Ningappa were tried separately and have been remanded to reformative home, according to C.S. Muttagi, Special Public Prosecutor (POCSO).
