Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty has stressed the need for students to be professional in the highly competitive era in order to compete at the global level.
Addressing students at the book reading and signing session of her book Three Thousand Stitches here on Thursday, Ms. Murty, an alumnus of BVB College of Engineering and Technology (now KLE Technological University), said unless students adapted to the situation it would be difficult to sustain pressure of cut-throat competition.
Mastering English language would help you excel in the global competition, she said.
Recollecting her days as a student of BVBCET, Ms. Murty narrated her experiences and engineering education of her days. “Those days, it was believed that engineering was only for boys. I wanted to become an engineer and I believed in myself. I was the lone girl to enrol for engineering studies, then. But the college provided me an opportunity to excel in my life,” she said.
Elaborating her experience as a woman who had taken up the task of bringing Devadasis to the mainstream 17 years ago, Ms. Murty said she had helped 3,000 Devadasis come to the mainstream and they had gifted her ‘koudi’ (traditional rug) stitched by them, which was a memorable gift.
In the session attended by Vice-Chancellor of KLE Technological University Ashok Shettar and others, Ms. Murty called on the students to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams to achieve excellence.
