Turf war in NIMHANS?

Updated - July 26, 2015 07:40 am IST

Ahead of President’s Pranab Mukherjee visit to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) on Tuesday, there appears to be a turf war on the campus.

On Saturday, a few group D employees of the institute gathered in front of NIMHANS office to express solidarity with the in-charge Director N. Pradhan. Some of these employees also plan to meet senior officials of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to seek their intervention in the issue.

Dr. Pradhan had earlier written to the former Director Satish Chandra saying that he could not continue as a faculty member and had also changed the heads of three departments.

Sources said that services of some of the retired professors who were serving the institute as consultants were terminated without prior notice.

On Friday, a section of the faculty members went en masse to Dr. Pradhan’s office to urge him to allow Dr. Satish Chandra, to continue as senior professor of the institute.
