A mobile application is now available for breast cancer awareness and detection.

Released by Cochin Cancer Society as part of breast cancer awareness month in October, the App called Save Your Mother, 2015 can be downloaded from both android platform as well as the Apple I Store.

Developed by Thinkpalm Technologies Pvt Ltd, based in Infopark, Kakkanad, the App focuses on the disease as preventable and curable.

Registering for the App will give information about real-time happenings for people in the district about breast cancer awareness camps, early detection camps and training camps for students conducted by the Cancer Society.

The idea to train students is that they will help their mothers and others in the family who could be at risk.

The Cancer Society had started the training with an aim to reach all sections of the society, said cancer surgeon K. Chitrathara, vice president of the Society.

How the disease becomes curable is by getting screened at appropriate age intervals and it will help in early detection.

The content in the App is divided into three sections — Prevention, Detection and Treatment. Information on various techniques is available for women below 30 years or below 40 years in adopting self-examination. The App also has a 6-minute animated video on self examination.

In one section of the App, the misconceptions against the disease are detailed. Experts speak on the realities of the disease and how people can avoid in getting misinformed.

The focus of the App is on early detection that will completely cure the disease.

There is also a video featuring actor Manju Warrier explaining how her mother was saved from cancer.
