Communist Party of India (CPI) State unit secretary Pannian Ravindran has hit out at what he termed as the ‘soft Hindutva’ policy being followed by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Inaugurating a meeting of the party at Ettumanur on Sunday, Mr. Ravindran alleged that the United Democratic Front (UDF) government was implementing the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said Mr. Chandy was following a khadi-clad policy which was saffron in the inside. That was why he had not taken any action even after the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) went ahead with the ‘ghar vapsi’ programme of reconversion, Mr. Ravindran said.
Dubbing Mr. Chandy a political acrobat, the CPI leader said the UDF government was moving ahead with a single point agenda of ‘‘making hay while the sun shines.’’
Corruption“When they have completed three years in power, the only achievement was rampant corruption which has been institutionalised,” Mr. Ravindran said.
He said the previous Left Democratic Front government had left the coffers full when they stepped down.
Criticising the financial administration of the State, Mr. Ravindran said the UDF government was following a policy wherein the common people were being heavily taxed when the rich escaped unhurt.
Commenting on the infighting in the Congress, Mr. Ravindran said KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran, who had taken out a State-wide road show against the liquor policy, had become a prisoner in the hands of those who championed the cause of bar owners.
The CPI State secretary said Kerala’s development paradigm was set in motion by C. Achutha Menon when he was the Chief Minister, though some people did not wanted to admit it.
