A protest meeting to express solidarity with the protesting students of the Film and Television Institute of Pune was held here on Monday.
People from various fields, including socio-cultural leaders participated in the function to protest alleged cultural fascism of the Union Government.
The students of the FTII have been protesting against appointment of Gajendra Chauhan, member of cultural wing of the BJP, as the chairman of the reputed institute.
The appointment was part of implementing agenda of the RSS in the institute, alleged the cultural leaders. Not only in the FTII, such appointments have been going on in the Indian Council of Historical Research, National Book Trust, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies and Censor Board, they noted.
There should be protest against the attempt to communalise the cultural institutions.
Film directors Kamal, K.G. George, V.T. Balram, MLA, poet and lyricist Rafeeq Ahmed, other socio-cultural leaders including Vaisakhan, Kalpatta Narayanan, V.R. Gopinath and Kavitha Balakrishnan led the protest.
