Broad gauge goods train chugs into Mizoram

Updated - March 22, 2016 05:47 am IST - Aizawl:

For the first time, a broad gauge goods train on Monday arrived at Bairabi Railway Station in Mizoram from Guwahati carrying 2,600 metric tons of rice.

Mizoram Transport Minister John Rotluangliana, who received the train, said the arrival of the “large train” was a significant milestone in the history of Mizoram.

The operation of larger trains at the Bairabi Station on the Mizoram-Assam border would ensure that people could purchase commodities at lower prices while produces of the State could also be transported outside at cheaper rates.

This is expected to provide an alternative root, an official statement said. - PTI
