The East Central Railway (ECR) on Saturday announced a change in the starting destination of its ambitious ‘roll on-roll off’ (RORO) service, aimed at reducing traffic on the Mahatma Gandhi setu, which will now begin from Danapur instead of Bihita.

“From July 3 onward the RORO service will begin from Danapur to Turkee in Muzaffarpur,” Chief Public Relations Officer, ECR, Arvind Kumar Rajak said.

Earlier, the RORO facility, a repeat of successful run of a similar scheme by Konkan Railway in 1999, was launched from Bihta to Turkee on May 25 this year.

The change of starting destination has been done on demand of consumers, Mr Rajak said here in a statement.

The change of destination was earlier planned from July 1 but could not be effected due to some technical reasons, the CPRO said, adding now it would begin from tomorrow.

The district transport officer’s certificate about weight of the truck would be taken as the base by the ECR, he said.

Mr Rajak said that from July 3, Rs 4,107 would be charged for a 15-tonne truck, while Rs 2,806 would be charged from an empty truck of an average 6-tonne weight. - PTI
