Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ch. Vidyasagar Rao was on Saturday sworn in as Maharashtra Governor.
His appointment followed the resignation of UPA appointed K. Sankaranarayanan from the post on August 24.
The latter resigned after being transferred to Mizoram.
Mr. Rao, who hails from Telangana, served as the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and subsequently as the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry in the NDA government led by Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Mr. Rao was actively associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
