Rahul congratulates Modi; Long live democracy, PM responds

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Saturday congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP on their victory in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In response, the Prime Minister tweeted: “Thank you. Long live democracy!”.

In an earlier tweet, Mr. Modi said: “Spoke to @capt_amarinder & congratulated him on the win in Punjab. Also wished him a happy birthday & prayed for his long & healthy life.” Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh turned 75 on Saturday.

In another tweet Mr. Gandhi said: “I thank everyone in Punjab for their immense faith and support. This is a mandate for a brighter future for Punjab and its youth.”
