The district police have arrested an accused who was absconding after the police booked him for taking out a ‘padayatra’ to Muthuramalinga Thevar memorial violating police orders, at Madurai Airport on Sunday when he tried to flee the country.

S. Boominathan (45) was one of the 53 people from Seyyamangalam village in Kamudhi block booked by the police for taking out a ‘padayatra’ from Abiramam to Muthuramalinga Thevar memorial at Pasumpon on January 5, violating police orders.

After the police registered the case against him and others under sections 143, 149, 153 (A) 1 (b), read with 188 of the Indian Penal Code, Boominathan had absconded. As he and three other accused in the case were passport holders, the police had issued a lookout circular to all the airports in the country.

When the accused tried to flee to Saudi Arabia, the immigration officials found him in the lookout circular list and informed Abiramam police. On the direction of Superintendent of Police N.M. Mylvahanan, Abiramam Inspector of Police Balamurugan arrested the accused at the airport, the police said.

S. Saravanan (32) and M. Ramamurthy (43) were the two other accused having passports and their names were also in the lookout circular. More than 10 persons were arrested in the case and remanded in judicial custody.
