Failing to elicit responses from the Nalgonda Police to its queries questioning the veracity of Alair encounter, Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Commission is veering around to ask for a judicial enquiry from the government.
The commission had received a complaint from three people alleging that the shootout was fake. The commission sought reports from the Collector and Superintendent of Police of Nalgonda district and the Prisons Department. Based on the reports submitted, the commission framed 15 questions seeking reply from Nalgonda Police. Among other questions, the commission wanted details of the escort party, weapons and rounds fired, SIM cards of the escort party and information on the injuries seen on the bodies of five undertrials, who were shot dead by the police near Alair on April 7. Last week, Nalgonda SP in his response claimed that he can not respond to the queries of the commission as the incident is being investigated by a government constituted, Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Following the SP’s response, the commission now plans to pose its questions to SIT or ask for joining the probe. Chairman Abid Rasool Khan said that the commission may also seek a judicial enquiry.
