The Pernambut Consumer Welfare Protection Society has appealed to the Chief Minister to arrange for a special enumeration drive in the State for those who have been left out of the 2010 decennial census in order to enable them to obtain their Aadhaar cards.
T. Basheerudeen, president of the society said in a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister that Aadhaar cards were being issued based on the 2010 census. The Government of India had announced that smart family cards would be issued based on the census and that the Aadhaar card details would be linked to the electors’ photo identity cards. Under these circumstances, those who have been left out of the 2010 census were running from pillar to post to get themselves videographed and get their biometrics captured.
The government has announced that those who want to get themselves videographed for Aadhaar cards should get the endorsement of the village administrative officer or bill collector on the Aadhaar application forms issued through the government. But when the members of the public who were left out of the 2010 census approach the VAOs or bill collectors, the latter demanded family cards. But there are thousands of families who do have family cards.
Therefore, a special enumeration should be conducted for the benefit of those who have been left out of the 2010 census, the society said.
