Scores of people gave a rousing reception to actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan when he arrived at the Madurai airport on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the launch of his political party on Wednesday evening.
Amidst vociferous fans who hailed their matinee idol, Mr. Haasan said he would hoist the party flag and explain his party ideology at a public meeting scheduled to be held in Madurai on Wednesday evening.
A visibly elated Mr Haasan said he had come back to the soil that had sent him to the tinsel town with its blessings. He will be visiting the memorial of former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at Pei Karumbu near Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district. The actor’s birthplace Paramakudi is nearby.
When asked why he chose the temple city of Madurai for the launch of his party, he said: “ yaadhum oore yaavarum kelir” , from the verse of Tamil poet Kaniyan Poongundranar that states every place is one and all men are kin.
